Swinomish Channel - Maintenance Dredging Underway & Buoyage Changes
Corps of Engineers is currently in the process of maintenance dredging of shoaling areas on the Swinomish Channel. Work began on October 23, 2018 and is slated to be completed by the end of November. Work commenced on the south end of the channel, where some of the more problematic shoaling occurs. The channel is dredged every 4 to 6 years to maintain a depth of 12 feet at MLLW and a width of 100 feet. Caution for the dredge barge when transiting the channel. The dredge barge may be contacted on VHF 16 & 72.
This winter (2018/2019), the US Coast Guard will be replacing 5 buoys (numbers 1, 6, 8, 12, and 15) at the southern entrance to the Swinomish Channel with daybeacons. The daybeacons are planned for the same locations as the buoys they are replacing.
